I began this project of writing to my children thinking it would be a gorgeous thing for them. I still think it’s a marvelous idea and they do enjoy and appreciate it very much; now that right there is a present for me. However, I have to admit, I have benefited greatly and honestly… I don’t know if I got the better end of the deal.
Not only did I leave a lifelong memento for my kids, a chain of positive events have unfolded for me and I have grown. One good gesture produces ripples like a stone on a pond, you never know who or where the waves will end up and what they will touch. After gearing up my creativity, I reached out to my sister Jadyn the designer, and she began to help me. I guess I tagged her and she put her creativity in motion, working together brought us closer than ever before and that is gift #2. My husband Omar supported me throughout this whole ordeal up until the moment of doing an investment for publishing, his belief in me is valuable #3. I had to search for writing professionals to review my work and got acquainted with great people like Andy who now are my friends and a big part of my life. After researching about publishing, I landed on a house with a fantastic staff and later worked with Ron, a publicist consultant who is a gem and his colleagues guided me towards interviews of various blogs, magazines and TV programs and in each one: beautiful people who are warm and genuine. Last week I even had the opportunity to explore a new city because of a couple of interviews I had lined up and around each new corner… there are always more amazing human beings to meet.
Hard to believe it all started with the intention of giving a gift to someone. The more thought you put into it and the more creativity you apply… the more YOU get something out of it. Regardless of what it is: a book, a letter, a phrase, a poem or painting; a scarf, a blanket, a cake or cookies. If your hands created something for someone, those ripples will start to travel and soon you will be receiving 10 times that present in return. Get out there, get inspired, get creating and GIVE. You and this planet will have acquired a more alluring quality to your souls.
